Enter the Abyss

Ever wondered what awaits in the Abyss?
Not so long ago, deep ocean exploration was reserved for an elite group of scientists and military personnel. Now adventure travellers are transcending the boundaries of oceanic exploration and making this amazing journey to the edge on light, aboard DeepSee. Our sleek, custom-built one-atmosphere submarine is straight out of a Bond movie. DeepSee can descend to a maximum depth of 1,500 feet (450 meters). With ample room for a pilot and two passengers to travel in comfort , you can share this astounding journey with a friend. The craft’s clear acrylic bubble blends seamlessly with the surrounding environment allowing us to get up-close and personal with the creatures outside. The view is unparalleled, as the 3-inch thick sphere virtually disappears when immersed, giving the astonishing sensation of total freedom with a 360-degree field of vision.
Operations

DeepSee handles and performs with exceptional agility, navigating or precisely hovering just a few inches away from rocks and corals while causing zero disturbance to the marine environment. The futuristic craft is the result of three years of design and development. DeepSee took shape in a joint venture undertaken by UnderSea Hunter, in collaboration with SEAmagine Hydrospace Corporation of California, with the guiding principles of safety and an unparalleled user experience. Each year it is exhaustively tested by the American Bureau of Shipping to maintain impeccable standards of operation. What’s truly revolutionary is her hybrid design – being part-boat and part-submersible allows passengers to conveniently step aboard and disembark while it floats within the protective hull of the mothership, Argo. DeepSee’s minimal embarkation time means this incredible adventure is easily accessible to a wide range of travellers of all ages.

Innovative design reflects her operational mission: collecting data, samples and capturing live images of diverse deep-ocean life forms. DeepSee is constantly undertaking research, conservation and exploration projects with names like National Geographic, Discovery Channel and the University of Costa Rica. Equipped with 4K high definition video and still cameras, plus an impressive array of LED lights, she also boasts a fully articulated robotic arm for collecting samples or retrieving scientific instruments. Passengers are welcome to simultaneously use their own video and still cameras, shooting through the sub’s clear acrylic sphere. DeepSee has facilitated the discovery of several seamounts and deep vertical ridges as well as species previously unseen at Cocos (including an entire family of coral brand new to science Aquaumbra Klapferi ). The prehistoric-looking Ateleopodid ( Guentherus altivela ), also known as the jellynose fish, is one of many creatures encoutnered at such incredible depths – including two species of deepwater shark: the prickly ( Echinirhinos cookei ) and the ragged tooth shark( Odontaspis ferox ).
Welcome aboard. Next stop, the Abyss.
